The MCITP certification class was retired by Microsoft in 2016. These were replaced by the Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) credentials which you can learn more about here.
MCITP Certifications demonstrate expertise across an IT job role.
Microsoft Certified IT Professionals (MCITPs) have the skills and experience to successfully perform the duties of an IT position - such as Database Developer or Server Administrator - with a concentration on Microsoft technologies of course.
Beyond the abilities to install, configure and troubleshoot widely-used Microsoft platforms, MCITPs can make the business and technology decisions necessary to ensure successful product deployments and implementations. This advanced level of expertise enables Microsoft Certified IT Pros to help the organization increase its technology ROI and maximize performance, often earning them top-tier salaries and benefits.
The MCITP builds on the skills measured in the MCTS, therefore, you will have earned one or more MCTS certifications on your path to becoming a Microsoft Certified IT Professional. Where the specialist-level MCTS cert validated your skills in a specific Microsoft technology, the professional-level MCITP certification confirms your skills in the entire job-role, across multiple Microsoft and non-Microsoft technologies.
This certification demonstrates your ability to perform the tasks of a database administrator, while managing the Microsoft SQL Server DBMS. MCITP Database Administrator 2008 cert holders can design database solutions, configure and maintain a SQL Server database, and provide support for SQL Server databases. Certification candidates should possess 3+ years of experience administering databases at the enterprise level.
These MCITPs can effectively perform the tasks of an enterprise desktop support specialist or help desk technician, including responsibilities like identifying and resolving network security issues, deploying and managing Windows 7, and supporting desktops, laptops and mobile devices across the enterprise. Exam candidates should have experience providing support for 100+ Windows 7 end-users, plus working knowledge of Active Directory.
This certification proves that you can take system-wide ownership of Windows Server 2008 solutions to increase an organization's return on its IT investment, an extremely valuable and highly marketable skill to have. Candidates for this certificate have experience performing the daily management and operations of Windows Server servers at the enterprise-level. This MCITP also validates soft skills in leadership and problem-solving.
